About This Coffee

This coffee comes from the Gondo wet mill, part of New Kiriti FCS cooperative in the Mathioya region of Murang'a County, Kenya. Located 17 kilometers from Kangema town and 110 km from Nairobi city, the cooperative was registered in 1998. Gondo wet mill has 727 active members cultivating coffee at elevations between 1600-1900 meters. The coffee is comprised of SL-28, Batian, Ruiru-11, and K7 varieties. It undergoes washed processing with selective hand picking of red ripe cherries, followed by pulping, 16-18 hours of fermentation for mucilage removal, washing, grading, and sun-drying to 10.5-11.5% moisture content. The region receives 1200-1400mm of rainfall annually. The cup profile features floral, preserved plum, and pomegranate notes.

After more than eight years of preparation, Manta Ray Coffee Roasters opened their flagship roastery in Nunawading, Melbourne, in October 2022. The industrial chic space features a visible roasting area framed by large windows, inviting visitors into the process. Drawing on a background in film color grading, the team approaches roasting as a form of creative expression, seeking to reveal depth and character in every batch. Award winners at the 2019 Roasters Smackdown and 2023 ASCA competitions, they offer their signature Outsider Blend alongside rotating single origins and an automated pour over experience at the bar.
