Loppo Kaffee

Loppo Kaffee is a specialty roastery in Kiel, Germany, founded in 2010 by Kira and Axel Datschun, who started with a secondhand cargo bike and espresso machine at the city's weekly markets. The roastery opened in 2014 with a Giesen W15A and has since added an IRM 30E electric roaster powered by renewable energy, cutting CO2 emissions by around 85 percent. As a member of Roasters United, a European network of 18 direct trade roasteries, Loppo sources exclusively organic coffee from cooperatives in Brazil, Ethiopia, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras and Kenya at a minimum price of $2.90 per pound, well above Fairtrade levels. All lots must score at least 84 SCAA cupping points and are roasted light to bring out origin character rather than roast flavour. Kira and Axel visit producing countries regularly and publish annual transparency reports on their sourcing. Loppo operates several locations in Kiel and ships across Germany through its online shop.
