This coffee is from the Kirinyaga region in Central Kenya, grown by the Baragwi Farmers' Cooperative Society, one of the largest in Kenya with over 17,000 smallholder farmers operating 12 washing stations. The soil is rich and volcanic, combined with seasonal rainfall and high altitude to create ideal growing conditions. Coffees from this region develop and mature slowly, producing very dense, hard beans with high acidity, full body and ripe fruit flavours.
Adams & Russell has been roasting coffee in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, since 1978. They use small batch flame roasting methods, hand roasting specialty grade Arabica from origins spanning nearly every coffee growing country. Their Peninsula Blend earned two Gold Stars at the Great Taste Awards. The company is both a registered Fairtrade Foundation Operator and a roaster of Rainforest Alliance certified coffees. In 2016 they opened a Coffee School with a dedicated espresso room for SCA certified barista training. They also supply wholesale clients with equipment from La Marzocco and Mahlkönig alongside their beans.
