Karatina

About This Coffee

This single origin coffee from Kenya comes from the Barichu Locale in Nyeri County, grown at 1650 meters altitude on the southern slopes of Mt. Kenya. The coffee is produced by the Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society representing around 1,450 smallholder farmers cultivating coffee on fertile red volcanic soils. Varieties include Ruiru 11, SL-28, and Batian. The coffee undergoes traditional fully washed processing with fresh river water, including overnight fermentation, washing, soaking, and drying on raised beds for 7 to 15 days. During drying, parchment is hand sorted and turned regularly. Flavor notes include mulberry, dark plum, and sugar cane, with a classic Kenyan filter profile characterized by depth and sweetness.
